Jeff Blackwell is an interesting kinda guy. He’s a really successful commercial real estate guy who knows his business and hasn’t had many issues during this housing crisis because of the type of business he’s run. He works, lives, breathes integrity. To that end, he has a passion for sales. And this is where I come in.

Jeff runs a site in his spare time. Sales Practice is an ‘everything-sales’ site. He has a very very active and involved community of sales folks who hold passionate discussions about sales. And he keeps an eagle eye on the discussion groups, making sure that no one is putting anyone else down, that all discussions are respectful and considerate, and he will quickly take off posts if he finds they will hurt someone.

Jeff does book reviews, has a job opportunity section, features sales training articles and links, introduces CRM capability for sellers. Whatever a seller needs is on Jeff’s site. And not only does he charge nothing and receive no income for his time and trouble, but he sees the site as his gift to sales. He loves the field, and is committed to making available all of the best material that he can so folks can take it and be better sellers.

Fortunately, years ago, Jeff found me (or did I find him??) and he fell in love with Buying Facilitation™, believing (rightly, if I might humbly concur) that BF is actually a spiritually-based, integrity-filled way to truly serve clients. He also recognized that it wasn’t sales and managed a very different element of the buying decision process than sales manages. He began shouting my name from the rafters: one person actually thought that I owned the site; another person told him to please stop sending him emails about Sharon Drew Morgen. Of course, I loved it, even if it was slightly (oh, just ever-so-slightly) obnoxious. But Jeff did it all out of passion for the field – that he had something that would help sales be all it could be.

Now that my book is out and doing so well, I would like to publically thank Jeff for his passion, his vision, his heart, and his commitment to Excellence. And I hope you all go to his site and find it to be a forum to discuss your thoughts and ideas on how to make sales a truly professional, integrous, career.

Thanks, Jeff. You’re the best. And the field is a better profession because you’re in it.

As of tonight, Dirty Little Secrets is #2 in the sales category on Amazon! How exciting! I am so happy I can barely express it!

I have a lot of people to thank. The most amazing thing is that I’ve never met most of these angels – we have met over the past months (in some cases a year or more) over the phone!

First, and friend par excellence, is Jeff Blackwell of SalesPractice.com. Even though we don’t know each other well, he fell in love with Buying Facilitation™ and my decision facilitation model quite a while ago, believing that Buying Facilitation™ completes the sales model – with integrity. He has been tirelessly, and obnoxiously (smile) pitching me and the new book daily for months. He humbles me.

My friend Jill has been my sounding board, my mother, my friend, and my coach. Without her, I might have had a different book – certainly be a different person.

Clayton Shold at Salesopedia made me laugh while he did stuff to help my new book that was wwaaayyyy beyond the call of duty. Avril Shelton has been an angel, appearing softly to lend a hand at all of the right moments. Anne Miller kept me honest and reminded me of what I was forgetting. Paul Mccord and Meri Aaron Walker kept me present. Craig Rosenberg, Gerhard Gshwandtner, David Friedland and Stone Payton reminded me of who I really am and sometimes kept me going when I wanted to go back to bed. Alan Chapman has believed in me and kept advertising about me for years and years and years.

And so many other wonderful, kind, caring folks who believe in Buying Facilitation™. Thanks everyone. You are the best!

I got a call today from my good friend Jeff Blackwell, the smart guy behind the SalesPractice.com sales training site. Jeff has been a buddy of mine since years ago, when we connected around adding some of my thinking to his site.

To be fair, Jeff is one of the few folks in the sales field who has always, consistently, believed that sales could be so-much-more, and became a fierce fan of my Buying Facilitation™ approach to the front end of the sales process. Jeff has been quite vocal that sales is an inadequate model that doesn’t quite manage the buyer’s decision making. He’s been one of my biggest fans.

Last month I sent him an early copy of my new book Dirty Little Secrets that’s coming out October 1. He called today.

“I have one word to say about the book.”

“So long as it’s a good one, I’m happy,” I said, somewhat scared. I know the book may be seen to be controversial because it focuses on the behind-the-scenes decisions buyers need to manage to get buy-in for any sort of change or purchase; in a word, it’s not really a sales book but a change management book.

“The word is Disturbing. It’s disturbing to read how sales has only managed the solution end of the sale, and to see that it’s actually possible to help buyers manage the off-line issues they need before they can buy. As sellers we haven’t had the tools to handle this before.

“This book will be disturbing to the industry because you’ve pulled back the veil and we can’t go back to the old way of just selling a solution any more. Your book teaches us how buying decisions are made. This understanding has been missing from the industry for so long. From this point forward, anyone who talks about sales has to mention this – it’s too big to push under the rug. The book is crystal clear, easy to understand, and right there for anyone to see. The book is sophisticated, but necessary for any serious sales professional. Once sellers read this, they are toast.”

Ah. So all of those bazillion hours writing until my neck hurt and forgetting to eat or work out (don’t ask about my newly flabby arms from foregoing pushups, or my butt from missing my step classes) just maybe paid off.

I can’t wait til you see my new book. I’ll be offering a couple of sample chapters soon. And I look forward to your feedback. Hopefully, you’ll find it disturbing also. In the meantime, go to www.salespractice.com and get onto a forum and play around. You’ll meet some interesting folks, Jeff being one of them.

Run and developed by Jeff Blackwell – a real estate developer with a passion for sales – this site is the Go To site for all things sales. He promotes trainers, books, gurus, ideas – all chosen through Jeff’s discerning eye and
heart. Jeff is singlehandedly on a crusade to upgrade the field of sales to be an honorable profession. Folks get onto blogs and are kind and thoughtful; experts get on and work to truly serve the site visitors.

I invite you all to get onto the site and play – and I’ll meet you there. I have a pretty good presence on there (Jeff likes Buying Facilitation) and I am invited to blog frequently – www.salespractice.com/forums/t-4714.html
